Wynonna Earp Returns July 20 On SyFy
Today is an ugly day for TV news (if no one told you about Brooklyn Nine-Nine, sorry you had to hear it from us), but the silver lining is that we get at least one more season of Wynonna Earp, and we now know when.
SyFy’s outrageous comedy-horror Western will be back mid-summer. Why should you care? Because it’s about the great-grandaughter of Wyatt Earp, who was actually a demon-hunter with a magic gun, and things get FAR weirder from there.
A typical season arc will be massively disjointed, but in a good way. Things will be set up that appear to affect the rest of the season, only to be blown out midway through. Season two began with a secret organization blackmailing Wynonna into helping them capture monsters. In any other show that would have been the procedural setup for the entire season, but here they get murdered five episodes in and the cast finds something worse to worry about. At some point Wynonna gets possessed and makes her sister drink pureed rat. Then she gets pregnant (the result of actress Melanie Scrofano’s own pregnancy, which had to be worked into the plot). Then there is an episode in the middle where everything is completely different because Wynonna has been suddenly erased from existence. (She got better.)
Pretty much anything can happen on Wynonna Earp, and at any time. The plot for Season 3 is described as Wynonna and her team “fight[ing] to take down the demon who cursed the Earp family before he destroys the Ghost River Triangle – and the world,” but that could either be the plot of the season or just the thing that happens in its first two episodes. The main point of the series is just…..fun.
