Wonder Woman Director Patty Jenkins Confirms Third Movie, Amazon Spinoff
The UK magazine Total Film recently interviewed Patty Jenkins, director of the first Wonder Woman as well as the upcoming sequel, and they managed to get this out of her: she and WB are already pre-planning Wonder Woman 3, and that’s not all.
A spinoff is also in the works, centered around the Amazon family that Diana originated from. As established in Movie #1 as well as decades of comic book lore, the hidden island of Themascyra is home to a race of immortal female warriors closely connected to Greek gods, who usually live their lives in peace but tirelessly train to defend themselves should a threat arise.
Here’s the interesting thing: Jenkins will not be directing the spinoff. “I’m not going to direct it, hopefully. I’m going to try really hard not to. It’s not going to be easy.” she told the magazine (CBR reprinted the quote). “Geoff Johns and I came up with the story, and we sold the pitch, and we’re going to get it going. I’ll produce it, for sure.”
The current plan is for the spinoff movie to appear first, followed by Wonder Woman 3…but first we have to get Wonder Woman 2. Currently, the release date for Wonder Woman 1984 is in August, but it really depends on how many theaters are open by that point. WB could risk a simultaneous digital release, but Universal made enemies out of the two biggest theater chains in America by doing that. The movie is complete and we’ll get it someday, we just don’t know when.
