Will Disney Give Marvel and Star Wars Its Own TV Channels?
There is absolutely no deny that Disney has become an epic powerhouse of properties and content or the last decade. First, it bought Marvel, and helped usher in what can easily be described as a golden age of superhero film. Then, it bought Lucasfilm, and has brought not only a well-received new Star Wars cartoon to the mix but also a new trilogy in the beloved series. And that of course doesn’t discount its own works, such as successful movies like Frozen, and best-selling video games like Disney Infinity. Again, it’s a powerhouse, but is it going to try and get even bigger?
During a conference call, Disney president Robert Iger suggested that the company should look into bring it’s Marvel and Star Wars to television in an even grander way, they’re own television channels.
“We have said that with these channels and these brands — ESPN, ABC, Disney, maybe even down the road something related to Star Wars and Marvel — we do have an ability as a company to take product, specifically filmed entertainment, television, movies, directly to consumers,” Robert Iger said as quoted by Daily Finance
On one hand, this could make sense, especially in the case of Marvel, who has hours of content from movies, TV shows, and cartoons both past and present to show off on its own channel. But, Star Wars not so much. They’ve only had limited content, which would raise the question of what would they show on a 24 hour channel? For the record, this isn’t official, just an idea, will it happen? We’ll see.
