Wasp Could Get Solo Film According To Ant-Man Writer
The desire, and possibly need, to get more female characters into the true leading spotlight for both Marvel and DC is all too apparent. DC has a small lead as they’re bringing Wonder Woman to theaters next year, and Supergirl has her own TV show. Marvel though has Agent Carter on TV, and is bringing Captain Marvel to theaters. But for Marvel, the first headline female lead will be Hope Van Dyne, aka the Wasp. Who debuted in last years Ant-Man, and will share a movie with him in 2018. When asked by IGN whether The Wasp might get her own solo film, he responded thusly:
“Possibly. I think it all depends on this sequel and how the character plays. Certainly there’s a lot of female superheroes in the Marvel universe so I’m sure you’re going to see them start to spread out. They sort of started with their kind of bedrock characters from the 60s and the 70s and I think you saw more of an explosion of female characters happening in the 80s and then the 90s. X-Men obviously has great female characters, but that’d be interesting, a Wasp movie. I don’t know, that’d be very interesting. I always think of the two of them as kind of together – they always were in the comics – but why not. Sure.”
Ant-Man and The Wasp hits theaters June 6th, 2018.
