Warren Ellis Talks Return of WildStorm
The DC Comics label isn’t just one line. In fact, at one time, there were several imprints, or separate comic universes, that were under said label. One of which was the fan-favorite WildStorm universe. Which is where characters like Stormwatch, Grifter, and more were born. But, when Flashpoint ended, DC Comics decided to merge the two universe together.
What this led to was a true merging of universe. To the extent that the New 52, and to an extent DC Rebirth, was filled with WildStorm characters. But, it wasn’t all good news. While some characters did thrive, such as Midnighter, a majority had their series cancelled, or were regulated to camoes or sidestories. Well, now, DC Comics is bringing back WildStorm in a big way starting this Wednesday with a title called “The Wild Storm” which is headed up by comic legend Warren Ellis.
Ellis talked with Vulture about what this all means, as well as how it fits in the DCU at large:
“I’m making use of the DC multiversal structure. This is, if you like, ‘Earth-Wildstorm,’ a parallel universe to the regular DC world. This means that Steve [Orlando]’s book takes place in the mainstream DC universe. That frees me to use Midnighter and Apollo, which I plan to — but they will be alternates, and very different versions. Steve’s book stands on its own two feet, and I don’t want to mess with that.”
So this means that the WildStorm characters can be seen in both comic lines if they want, which is very freeing. The plan so far is to star with “The Wild Storm” then expand to 4 series as time goes on, with more to potentially follow after that.
