Want to see what Black 2 looked like?
After a bit of playful hounding from Canadian videogames journalist turned presenter Geoff Keighley, Criterion Games’ Creative Director Alex Ward has released a screenshot from cancelled FPS Black 2.
The image contained in the Tweet embedded below was taken from an unreleased promotional video entitled “Target X”:
Just for @geoffkeighley then – first frame from what was we called the Black 2 “Target X” video. #Black2 pic.twitter.com/ZyoAJoT89K

But before anyone could say the word “sequel”, the above was followed by this statement:
And before anybody asks. No. We’re not doing it. Just a bit of fun that’s all. I need the hard drive space so it’s being deleted as I go

In response to questions from Followers, Ward defended the studio’s decision to abandon the project indefinitely – stating the game probably wouldn’t hold up to today’s standards; “times have sure changed”, he said. He then went on to express his utmost respect for Battlefield developer DICE, a studio he believes has “mastered the genre”. Take that, Call of Duty.
If you’re in possession of a serviceable PlayStation 2 and haven’t played Criterion’s gun porn spectacular, we strongly recommend that you acquire a copy. Why? We were hoping you’d ask that…
