Walking Dead Showrunner Promises Big Season 8
Though the 7th season of Walking Dead ended on Sunday on AMC, fans are already wondering what will happen in Season 08. Season 07 was big in a lot of ways, but some fans called the show out for some very uneven episodes. Well, during the aftershow, Talking Dead, Showrunner Scott Gimple said that Season 08 will be huge.
“I say it’s going to be bigger, it’s going to be more intense. I say these things and I’ve meant them every year and I think we’ve actually accomplished that,” Gimple said on the show, transcribed by Entertainment Weekly, “This year, same thing. More intense. The first 4 episodes will melt people’s minds and break their televisions.”
One of the biggest criticisms was that the show didn’t seem focused at times, and every time we went to Alexandria or to Negan’s pad we’d get a lot of repetitive dialogue and scenes. Gimple says Season 08 won’t do that. In fact, he says that Season 08 is “going to be different. They aren’t going to meet in Alexandria every weekend and do that. There are twists and turns to it, definitely some small-scale things and some large-scale things and a whole different momentum to the story. Now that [the various factions] are in public conflict and everything is on the table as far as everybody knows who everybody is to each other and what’s going on, the narrative changes a lot.
It’s going to become a bit more kinetic and fast-moving, because that’s where the story is going. The content is definitely going to be determining the form.”
We’ll just have to wait and see if that’s true. Walking Dead will likely return in October, we’ll just have to wait until then.
