Walking Dead Fans Are Protesting Carl Grimes’ Death
Something that must be started about certain fanbases is that when a show or film follows popular and well known source material, certain things are expected. Now, they do understand that not everything can be the same, as that would be very hard to do, but certain things are thought to be “sacred”. For the Walking Dead, the show has diverged from the comics in many ways. Certain people are alive when they’re dead in the comics, certain characters never showed up in the series. But the recent midseason finale though has many people angry.
For in the midseason finale, Chandler Riggs, aka Carl Grimes revealed to Rick Grimes and Michonne that he had been bitten by a Walker, which means he will die soon. And right after the episode aired, Riggs and showrunner Scott Gimple confirmed that Carl Grimes will die in the midseason premiere when the show returns in February. Now, given that Carl is alive in the comics right now…fans are basically rioting.
So much so in fact that they’re filing a petition on Change.org to get Carl to stay alive, and fire Scott Gimple. Their justification for this isn’t just because Carl is alive in the comics, but because apparently, Gimple promised Riggs that he’d be on the show for three more years, and that was a lie. He also didn’t give a good explanation for Riggs departure other than it was “for the story.”
Their frustration is valid to an extent, and we likely won’t know what the true reason for the departure was. The petition is doing rather well actually, it has over 31,000 signatures at the time of this posting. Just goes to show, don’t mess with the lore of the Walking Dead without a dang good reason.
