2015 will see the release of EA and DICE’s reboot of the Star Wars Battlefront franchise. However, a game that is arguably far more anticipated will be a new Star Wars action game from EA and Visceral, the developer behind the Dead Space franchise. What is more, the game is being directed by former visionary game developer and Uncharted creative director Amy Hennig. During a panel at the recent Metrocon, actor and Uncharted franchise star Nolan North revealed some tidbits on the upcoming Star Wars game Hennig is involved in. There has been virtually no news on the game, other than the announcement that Hennig had joined the project with Visceral last year. You can check out a video of North’s comments in the panel below (H/T: NeoGAF).
Speaking on Hennig, North commented: “If you’re a big fan of Amy Hennig and her style of story, she’s gone to EA and is going to reboot a brand new Star Wars franchise in the style of Uncharted. I happen to know a lot about it and it’s going to be awesome.” North was asked if it was Star Wars 1313, and he responded, “No, it’s different, but along the same lines.”
Star Wars 1313 was revealed three years ago at E3 2012, and there was even some demo footage released. However, the project was later cancelled after Disney’s acquisition of the Star Wars franchise, LucasFilm and LucasArts. The reason Star Wars 1313 comes to mind when it comes to Uncharted director Amy Hennig is because Star Wars 1313 was basically meant to be an Uncharted-style game set in the Star Wars universe. The game looked to be a third-person shooter with a heavy, cinematic and dynamic style that was comparable to that of the signature style Uncharted has become known for.
Visceral and Hennig are pretty much guaranteed to be starting over from scratch with their new game, so it makes sense the new Star Wars game is not 1313. That said, with Hennig at the helm, the game could still feature some similarities and hallmarks that are synonymous with her work on the Uncharted franchise.
More details on the upcoming Visceral Star Wars game have still yet to be revealed. North’s tidbits at least provide a couple ideas to go on. Hopefully, he will not find himself in hot water for sharing this information with fans during a panel.
