UPDATE: Konami Confirms Cancellation! Is Silent Hills Cancelled? Guillermo Del Toro Thinks So
UPDATE: Konami has officially confirmed that Silent Hills is cancelled with an official statement:
“Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued.”
This is no doubt a huge blow to fans. We’ll have to see what comes next for the Silent Hill franchise.
Here is the original story we reported earlier:
So let’s recap just a little bit. Hideo Kojima is out at Konami, though we still don’t know why or what manner in full. Neither side has given a full solid reason. This left many questions as to what would happen to the games Hideo Kojima was attached to.
We already have confirmation that despite Kojima’s departure, Metal Gear will live on via a new saga after Metal Gear Solid V releases, but that wasn’t the only game Kojima was working on, as he was attached to a revival of the Silent Hill franchise, which was to be called Silent Hills. It was to star Norman Reedus as the main character and also was to be co-written with Guillermo Del Toro.
Since the announcement of the departure of Kojima, little word has been spoken about Silent HIlls, until now because not only is the Playable Teaser for the game being taken down, but Guillermo Del Toro was quoted as saying the following during the San Francisco Film Society Event (via Matt Hackney).
“‘It’s not gonna happen and that breaks my greasy heart.’ -Guillermo del Toro on #SilentHills. #sfff #sffs #sffilmfest #fb”
This is sad news indeed for gamers, and even though Konami has not officially stated this, Del Toro really has no reason to lie about this. He would know about it being done as he was a big part of the project. Oh well.
