Universal’s Freaky Hits VOD December 4
The current pandemic-hobbled state of the cinema industry means movies aren’t staying in theaters for long. It’s very likely you never went to see Christopher Landon’s Freaky on the big screen (because you’re a responsible mask-wearing citizen), so when can you catch it on your home TV? Not too long from now…the earliest home video release is VOD, which happens December 4.
In this demented retelling of Freaky Friday, the protagonist is Millie, a plain-looking (not really, but just go with it) student who nobody ever notices. She doesn’t get invited to parties and the boys walk right past her. “I’m the kind of person who gets killed off first in a horror movie,” she says, right before that nearly happens. But there’s a twist: the man used an antique dagger to do the deed that comes with a body-swapping curse. Millie wakes up the next morning in a creepy house, as a middle-aged man, and has to find a way to convince her few friends what happened, while preventing the killer from wreaking havoc on the unsuspecting school.
Kathryn Newton plays dual roles in Freaky as Millie and the killer, and has a ball with it, offing bratty classmates in creative and violent ways while flashing evil smirks. Rounding out the cast are Celeste O’Connor, Misha Osherovich, Uriah Shelton, and Vince Vaughn as the slasher / bodyswapped Millie.
The overall feel of the film reminded critics of Landon’s own Happy Death Day — which is a good thing. Freaky will be released December 4 on VOD platforms, with other home video formats likely to follow.

Vince Vaughn is a very convincing Teenage girl on this movie. LOL
