Turns Out Breath Of The Wild’s Human Population Are Technically Miis
When you have to build a game as huge as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it might be tempting to take shortcuts. But if you do, you might get caught…so the secret is to disguise them cleverly enough so that no one would suspect something in your new game is based on the framework of a previous project.
However, if your fanbase is fervent enough, they’ll discover anything eventually, and Zelda stan HEYimHeroic revealed his findings to the world this weekend after poking around with Breath of the Wild. All the human characters in the game share a secret…they’re actually Miis. The coding work is more advanced, but it’s based off the same foundation, to the point where a Mii can be loaded into a modded version of the game.
HEYimHeroic demonstrated this by uploading his personal Mii, Matt from Wii Sports, and the Barret Mii that was just added to Smash Ultimate (along with Sephiroth). All of them went into the game without issue.
Hi, Mii expert here. Turns out, the NPCs in TLoZ:BotW use an advanced version of the Mii format. This means that with modding, you can inject Miis into the game. 🙂
Thinking about opening commissions for Mii injects, both screenshot/images of your Mii and mod downloads! pic.twitter.com/8NfVr4zyqA

The internal files of Breath of the Wild pretty much admit the cheat, where the NPCs go by the name of “UMiis.” Not every Mii will show up in proper form, but this is only because not every hairstyle possible in Mii Maker was carried over to the 2017 Zelda game. With a little modding, though, all styles can be possible, and you’ll soon be able to meet anyone on the road in Hyrule.
