In some franchises, the voice actor behind certain characters are just as important as the characters themselves. Their voice brings life to the character and helps make them iconic. For the Metal Gear Solid games, David Hayter has been Solid Snake almost the entire series. To that end, fans are extremely loyal to him. So when it was revealed that Kiefer Sutherland would be replacing Hayter as Snake for Metal Gear Solid V, fans were pretty upset. Not the least of which was because MGSV is meant to be the end of Snake’s story as it were, so why not finish it with the man who made the character a legend?
Well, Troy Baker, who is also voicing a character in the game, has heard your concerns, and recently gave reassurances that Sutherland would be great if fans gave him a chance:
“To his credit, Kiefer Sutherland knocked it out of the freaking park, and he came in and he put the work in, I love David Hayter, I love David, he’s a good dude and he’s Snake, but so is Kiefer. And that guy showed up, rolled up his sleeves and got dirty on this game. So reserve judgement until you play it. You only have like two more months left and trust me it’ll be worth it.”
Metal Gear Solid V comes out September 15th.
