Tis The Season For Free Game Giveaways
You no doubt already know that Epic Games gives away one free game per day throughout December, as they did last year. Christmas is the day they usually reserve for their biggest drop…last year it was the new Tomb Raider trilogy; this year it was Death Stranding. Epic also accidentally gave away the Director’s Cut version of the game by mistake, but only for the first hour it was up. It pays to be alert!
If you DIDN’T know about the Epic Games giveaway, uh….sorry….guess we should’ve said something earlier. But there are still a handful of games to go. The stylish first-person action shooter Severed Steel is free today; that’s not a bad prize. Also, Epic isn’t the only outfit giving away free games right now.
Amazon is handing out multiple free titles this week as part of their Prime Gaming giveaway. The majority of them are from the same publisher (SNK), but there’s some excellent stuff here:
- Dishonored 2
- Metal Slug
- Metal Slug X
- Metal Slug 3
- Real Bout Fatal Fury
- The King of Fighters 2003
- The Last Blade
- The Last Blade 2
- Twinkle Star Sprites
- SNK 40th Anniversary Collection
The highlight is the 2016 award-winning stealth / action game Dishonored 2, which if you haven’t played by now, you need to. You are Queen Jeanine Garofalo, a punky witch has stolen your throne, and you spend the entire game singlehandedly thwarting her evil plans while making dry comments in a monotone voice. You can also play this game as Corvo, the protagonist of the first Dishonored, but that option is just there for insecure MRAs who can’t handle playing as a girl. Logically, this should be Emily’s story; her dad already had his.
It may look like there are ten free games, but since one of them is the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection, there are actually way more. The collection has 24 classic SNK games in it, making for 34 games in all. You will need a GOG account (for D2) and Amazon Prime to claim them all, but it’s fully legal to just activate a free trial, claim the games and then cancel.
Dishonored 2 will be free for the next 35 days, and downloadable once claimed on any PC, but you have nearly a year to claim the SNK stuff, which are connected to the Windows Amazon Games App.
