Thundercats Ho! New Mattel Action Figures Revealed
Mattel through the company’s Matty Collector’s Club has fully revealed it’s upcoming 2016 line of classic Thundercats action figures. Collectors and fans can subscribe to the Thundercats Club Third Earth subscription at this link. The deadline to buy into the Third Earth club is February 26. This will be the only way (for now at least) to buy the Club exclusive Mumm-ra action figure. You can check out images of the fully-painted prototypes, including Mumm-ra, below.
The 2016 line definitely looks promising. The first year of figures includes the show’s protagonist and hero, Lion-O, Panthro, Pumyra and Jackalman. Each figure is priced at $25 each, not including shipping and handling costs. Mumm-ra basically costs $25 since collectors have to pay an extra $25 to buy into the line, and they get Mumm-ra as a result. Fans and collectors can save some money on shipping costs if they opt for the single shipment option to receive all five figures together. However, it means waiting until December to get them all.
The previous reboot of Thundercats in 2011 failed to really get off the ground as a big success. The new show only lasted 26 episodes on Cartoon Network, and the story was never brought to its natural conclusion. The new toys from Bandai USA were a big disappointment. Previously, former Mattel employee Scott Neitlich claimed that the company was offered the Thundercats license but turned it down since they already had the Voltron license at the time. Either way, it’s great to see Matty Collector put together these new figures, sculpted by the amazing toy makers, the Four Horsemen.
The success of the Club Third Earth subscription this year will likely hinge on whether or not fans will get the rest of the characters in figure form. Hopefully, the line will do well enough to support figures for Cheetara, Tygra, Wily Kit & Kat, Snarf, Mumm-ra after his transformation and the very least Slythe. Getting the likes of Bengali, Jagira, Vultureman and Monkian would also be nice though.
