There’s Now A Mission To Complete The Lost Game Boy Color Game Infinity
From 1999 to 2001, Canadian developer Affinix Software worked on a tactical RPG for the Game Boy Color called Infinity. Despite years of work, the project was ultimately shelved when the Game Boy Advance arrived and the GBC market started shrinking. Unable to guarantee a profit if the game was manufactured, Affinix elected not to complete it. A partially complete ROM was dumped online in 2016, but it was not the full game as intended.
But thanks to the miracle of Kickstarter, the full game will see completion 20 years later! A team of former Affinix developers, along with some unassociated newcomers, have joined up to finish the coding on Infinity, print it to physical cartridges, and wrap the game up in a physical box. The campaign is live now!
An ancient, nameless evil stirs beneath the earth, twisting the land and its people alike with its corrupting force. Two rival nations careen toward war, as a shadowy figure arms them both with unholy weapons of immense power. A disgraced knight is called upon to overcome the centuries-old pain that divides these peoples, his own grief, and the malevolent forces fanning the flames of hate. This epic tale frames a roleplaying game with a unique tactical battle system, a detailed world with over 50 explorable areas and more than 100 items, and beautiful 8-bit graphics — all to immerse you into the world of Infinity!
The completed digital ROM of Infinity can be yours for a $12 pledge. The point, though, is to get the game on a physical cartridge and you can’t get that for less than $90. However the tier also includes two versions of the soundtrack (original chiptune and arranged), digital copies of the manual and an artwork pack, and a bonus sticker sheet.
Infinity’s goal was a modest $12,000, and they have long blown past that with $181,000 as of this writing. They’re now working on the stretch goals…a Steam port will be unlocked at $250,000, followed by several additions to the in-game artwork, and finally, Game Boy Advance enhancements (only four GBC games had additional GBA features). The campaign will be open until September 17, and the game is estimated to reach completed form one year from now.
