There’s A Big Video Game Magazine Archive Out There
The website ScreenRant has just alerted people that 117 issues of Nintendo Power magazine have “just been added” to the Internet Archive. I fear in a few hours I’m going to see this stated all over the Internet as fact, so let me point this out: they were actually added last February and they’ve been there for months.
In fact, not only does the Internet Archive have Nintendo Power issues to virtually leaf through, they’ve also got Official US Playstation Magazine, Gamepro, Game Informer, and the very first game magazine, Electronic Games, among others from all over the world. They’ve had them for quite some time, and it’s not every issue, but it’s plenty. See them all here and kiss your productivity goodbye.
These aren’t official uploads from Nintendo or Sega or any of the publishers involved; they’re scans archived for historical value. Much of the non-Internet content it hosts has been uploaded by volunteers. To be honest I’m kind of worried about what the Archive has been letting pass lately (tell no one you saw this) and I fear it’s going to lead to a copyright crackdown, which would inevitably push things too far in the OTHER direction and force us to lose a lot of valuable historical content.
If you have an old game magazine that the collection is missing, feel free to make an account at the Archive and add it. If you’re thinking of uploading Spongebob cartoons, knock it off before you ruin this for everyone.
