The Tick’s Amazon Series To Be More Grounded, Darker
The world today is full of superhero stories, from TV, to video games, to movies, they’re everywhere. And they cover a wide array from characters. From government agencies, to singular heroes, to team-up shows. Easily one of the most interesting heroes ever made though is The Tick. Which ironically had not only a cartoon series, but a live-action series as well.
Both eventually got cancelled, but not before building up a cult following. Now, via Amazon, The Tick is returning, and it won’t exactly be like it was before:
“I said at the time the network didn’t necessarily get it,” Barry Johnson, executive producer of both the original and reboot series, told Entertainment Weekly. “And I don’t know that we were doing exactly the version that was right, but we were happy with it.”
Despite its perceived failure, the show garnered a cult-like following for its satire. “We’ve got this show about superheroes [where] we get to have fun with the idea of superheroes by starting with kind of a comedic parody of [an] event-oriented-like universe,” creator Ben Edlund said. The Tick will be “darker and more grounded,” with a “real story, a real hero’s myth.”
No premiere date for The Tick has been given.
