The Spine Of Night To Debut At SXSW 2021
The fact that it’s all online won’t be the only unusual thing about this year’s SXSW film festival…it’ll also mark the debut of something we don’t see too often in the animation genre: a fantasy horror story. It’s called The Spine Of Night, and it’s coming from Gorgonaut Pictures.
There once was a man who sought sacred forbidden knowledge, obtaining it from a magic plant. There was a reason they told him not to do this, and the power corrupts him, turning him into one of the world’s most dangerous beings. Someone’s gotta stop him, and several willing adventurers try throughout the ages. According to the producers they include “a daring tomb-robber, star-crossed lovers, a maniacal necromancer, winged assassins, and an undying guardian.”
A host of familiar actors will be voicing this cast, including Richard E. Grant (Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, Bram Stoker’s Dracula), Lucy Lawless (Ash Vs. Evil Dead, Xena: Warrior Princess), Patton Oswalt (The Secret Life of Pets 2, Parks and Recreation), Betty Gabriel (Get Out, Uupgrade), Joe Manganiello (Justice League, Spider-Man), Abby Savage (Orange is te New Black), and Larry Fessenden (The Dead Don’t Die, Depraved).
The Spine Of Night was written and directed by Philip Gelatt and Morgan Galen King, and inspired by the dark 70s movies by Ralph Bakshi and the art of Frank Frazetta. The movie will premiere at SXSW 2021, which will be held March 16-21.
