The Shivering Truth Serves Up A New Season Of Scares
Animation fans have begun to complain about the state of their medium turning same-y again, though the people who say this seem to be focusing entirely on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. But it’s the 20s, and animation is being produced by many different sources — streaming in particular has been busting the status quo and driving innovation with many of their hand-drawn programs.
In fact, if the people watching CN just waited a few hours, they would be able to catch one of the most daring animated programs currently in production today: Adult Swim’s The Shivering Truth, a rare attempt at using animation for horror.
Though it’s not entirely serious, Vernon Chatman’s series is a legitimate attempt to get under the viewer’s skin and plant the seeds of nightmares before bedtime. It’s an anthology series featuring the most surreal, disturbing imagery possible with the art of stop-motion.
This season’s stories will feature the voices of Kate Berlant, Mike Birbiglia, Wyatt Cenac, Julia Davis, Chris Elliott, Will Forte, Josh Gad, Miranda July, Jason Mantzoukas, Kyle Mooney, Griffin Newman, Ego Nwodim, Alia Shawkat, and Tierra Whack, along with creator, director and co-writer Chatman.
The Shivering Truth is also directed by Cat Solen, and executive-produced by PFFR (Chatman, Alyson Levy, and John Lee) with Solen. Serving as co-executive producer is Lisa M. Thomas.
The Shivering Truth returns for a second spooky season Sunday, May 10 at midnight on Adult Swim, following the midseason premiere of Rick & Morty.
