The Rumors Were True: Everybody 1-2 Switch Is Real
It was almost exactly a year ago when the small website Fanbyte posted an expose on a game being developed internally at Nintendo. The story goes the game was allegedly so bad, Nintendo wasn’t sure what to do with it. That story was just validated today, as the exact game that Fanbyte described was just revealed by the company, with a rushed release date within the month.
The Fanbyte expose said the game would be called “Everybody 1-2 Switch,” a sequel to the 2017 motion-control party game that came out at the Switch’s launch. They also reported that unlike the original, it would have a mascot host named “Horse” that looked like a plastic horse head. That is exactly what we’re getting.
The “Everybody” in the title refers to the fact that the game supports way more players than can fit in one room. It will use online play to cram up to 100 simultaneous players into each minigame, with the option of smartphone controls for those who lack a Joy-Con. However, the reason the original report went viral was because the game tested so badly that one playtester expressed concern it would “damage Nintendo’s reputation” if it were ever released.
The last thing Fanbyte claimed was that it was too late to cancel Everybody 1-2 Switch without a massive loss; the cases and packaging had already been printed. This might explain why Nintendo’s actual announcement for this game is so quiet. There is no trailer; only an image of the logo and the long-awaited Horse mascot. It’s being shoved out within weeks of this announcement. It’s also being sold well below the $60 standard (or $70 now, we guess). $30 for a physical copy.
It’s probably still bad, but at least it’s cheap. Everybody 1-2 Switch will be released June 30.
