The Results Of Ship Of Heroes’ Community Event
Ship of Heroes is an upcoming superhero-based MMO that’s a lot like City of Heroes, except it is centered around a large ship. You ride the ship to various locales, beat up the bad guys in every city, and then travel to the next one. Heroic Games, the team behind Ship of Heroes, has been conducting alpha and beta tests since 2017, and their most recent test was their biggest ever…the Community Event, where anyone who asked could join in.
Heroic has conducted several beta tests before this one, but they’ve been closed affairs exclusive to those who donated at least $50 to the project before last October. They decided to open the gates for this new test, though, and granted keys at open request.
Over twice as many players joined the open event as there were in the last closed one. This most recent beta included sixty new costume pieces, fully functional vendors, an early peek at the crafting system, and a level cap of 20. Here are some of Heroic’s notes from the event:
· Players were allowed to run through an actual developer map, with all the warts and all of the new content included. Updates and improvements requested by the community were implemented each day during the event.
· The setting for the event was Apotheosis City, which is a beautiful, futuristic city set in a giant generational spaceship in Ship of Heroes.
· The developers have re-established their day/night cycle in the city, and loaded the nighttime with enemies, which was particularly challenging.
· Several special events (Riots) were held during the two-week long open house. In a couple of these, alien bosses completely owned the players (and the Devs). But it was still very, very fun.
· What this SoH event really shows is that these developers are closing in on an actual launch of the game. As with most games that are nine months from launch, there is a lot to fix or improve, but the basic game is working.
Another test for Ship of Heroes is planned soon, but this one will be more traditional. In fact it will be very exclusive, with only 30 to 50 players allowed in. Heroic will announce more about this test sometime in the next three months.
