The Ninth Star Wars Chapter Now Has A Release Date
We haven’t even gotten the eighth film yet (or the Han Solo spinoff prequel), but Disney has already plunked down a release date for Star Wars Episode IX, as well as a few other big releases it has planned for 2019. As those who have been watching the Marvel release schedule know, Disney likes to plan out these things WAY, WAY in advance.
Episode IX will be the first Star Wars produced under Disney’s watch that isn’t released in the winter months: it’s coming out May 24, 2019. Two other 2019 releases guaranteed to get butts in seats will be Frozen 2 (release date: November 27) and a live-action* Lion King (release date: June 19).
*Disney is calling this a live-action remake despite the likely fact that every single character in it will be CGI.
Keep in mind these release dates are not set in stone and may be switched around in the next two years. In fact, to accommodate these movies, Disney’s already shuffled its schedule again: Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck It Ralph 2 and an adaption of A Wrinkle In Time are switching places (the former now comes out in November 2018, the latter in March). Disney has also knocked the next Indiana Jones movie all the way into 2020 (yes, they still plan to use Harrison Ford, and they better hope he lives that long).
