The Next Amityville Movie Is Done, But It Won’t Be Released
Our typical Januaries are crammed with horror movies the studios think are stinkers and want to burn off. But there’s a horror movie that is apparently so bad that its parent company doesn’t want to release it at all.
I’m referring to Amityville: The Awakening, a picture originally scheduled to come out April 15, 2016. It was then moved to January 6, 2017, then pushed down to June 30, 2017…..and if that date had held, we would have been seeing promos by now. Deadline reports The Weinstein Company has officially removed Amityville: The Awakening from its schedule altogether. It’s never coming out, period.
How bad can it possibly be? No one knows. Its director, Franck Khalfoun, has a decent track record (P2, the Maniac remake) and it has some good actresses cast (Bella Thorne, Jennifer Jason Leigh). It’s possible that Weinstein is more nervous about poisoning a brand than releasing one bad movie. The Amityville series has gone on for a long time, and after watching what Rings recently did for Samara’s career, they may be understandably gunshy about letting this one out there if they fear it could prevent any future sequels.
Reports also state, however, that an overseas release is still possible, so if you’re curious about the rottenness of this movie (as I’m sure a lot of people are at this point), you may be able to import a DVD someday. In the meantime, this one trailer will have to satisfy your curiosity….
