The Legends Of Tomorrow Are Teaming Up With Isis
According to Variety, DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow will be getting a new regular cast member this fall. Actress Tala Ashe has joined the ranks as Zari Tomaz; official description follows:
Zari Adrianna Tomaz is a Muslim-American woman from the year 2030 who lives in a world of contradictions — technology has brought about incredible change in her future, but too bad human nature hasn’t kept pace. Fear, prejudice and a lack of care for the planet have forced Zari to become a “grey hat hacktivist.” Described as a computer nerd with a wry, combative attitude, she is a woman living a double life who doesn’t realize that she has secret, latent powers derived from an ancient, mystical source.
And what powers they are….Zari’s comic book counterpart can create telekinetic shields, fire energy blasts, run at an amazing speed, throw superhuman punches, heal rapidly and sometimes even control nature. We’re skeptical the television version will be this overpowered, but we definitely know she’ll have to go by a different name, because her original one — “Isis” — isn’t going to fly these days. (It makes for a pretty clickbaity title, though, doesn’t it?)
Ashe, an Iranian-American, has many shows on her resume, including 30 Rock, Smash, Law & Order and Covert Affairs. This also is not the first time the Zari character has appeared on television; she turned up on a Smallville episode late in the series’ run. Legends of Tomorrow returns for a third season this fall on The CW.
