The Defenders Will Be Shorter Than Other Marvel Shows
Everything we know so far about Marvel’s The Defenders sounds great. We know that all the superheroes introduced in their respective series (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and the upcoming Iron Fist) will meet and team up against a solitary threat. We also know that solitary threat will be played by Sigourney Freaking Weaver. And here’s the best news yet: it’ll be short.
The first season of The Defenders will be just eight episodes long, as opposed to the 13 that compose the other Netflix Marvel shows, says a new press release from the studio. It also says that S.J. Clarkson will be directing the first two episodes (she also served as executive producer on the Defenders pilot, and has directed episodes of Jessica Jones, Orange is the New Black and Vinyl).
“S.J.’s take on the material is outstanding,” said Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb. “We loved her work on “Marvel’s Jessica Jones” and couldn’t think of a more talented and accomplished person to helm the first two episodes of “Marvel’s The Defenders.”
With a tighter story structure, there won’t be much wasted time in The Defenders. Our hopes are that it’ll play more like a movie than a show, never slowing down until the end. We already know who these people are…now we can get to the action!
