The CW Is Finally Coming To A Cable Streaming Service
It’s becoming more common (thankfully) for streaming services to offer feeds from local network affiliates, with the exception of two: CBS (because CBS expects you to pay for their own separate stream) and The CW (we don’t know the exact reason, but CBS owning 50% of the network may have something to do with it).
But we’ve now heard that someone has finally broken through and successfully negotiated a proper stream for The CW! Specifically, Hulu. The “Hulu With Live TV” plan will be the first in its genre to offer CW affiliate streams — in selected cities.
Yeah, that’s the downside. Hulu just barely figured out how to make this happen, so for the time being, only these specific cities will have CW feeds available: Philadelphia, San Francisco, Atlanta, Tampa, Detroit, Seattle, Sacramento and Pittsburgh. This is the first time we’ve witnessed a rollout that didn’t include either LA or New York first.
As for when coverage will expand, that’s anybody’s guess. Hulu first announced they were looking into adding The CW to Live TV back in August of last year. If it’s taken this long to get that handful of cities set up, you could be waiting quite a while.
