The Cowboy Bebop Trailer Must Be Seen To Be Believed
I’ve seen a lot of Netflix trailers. Most of them simply show clips from the upcoming season or series debut. A few of them get clever and do something original, but it’s rarely memorable. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Netflix trailer that made me go, “I HAVE to watch that again!” — until today.
Folks, the Cowboy Bebop trailer is the best thing you’ll see all week. I don’t know if it’s necessarily reflective of how the series will be (the show can’t possibly be this crazy or it wouldn’t really be an adaption), but boy is this fun to watch. Spike, Jet and Faye make complete hash of your typical trailer structure, leaping through panels, grabbing frames and pulling them…..it’s SO fun. Why are you still reading this? Play it already!
John Cho is playing Spike, the messy-haired protagonist. Mustafa Shakir has been cast as Jet Black, the bionic-armed, usually angry ship captain. Daniella Pineda is playing Faye, the aloof vixen out of time who is constantly getting into trouble of her own making. Ed is….still nowhere, but if the trailer is this insane, we have no idea why they’d be apprehensive about sticking her into the storyline. She wouldn’t “clash” tonally at all.
One thing often cited about the Cowboy Bebop anime is its incredible soundtrack, and in this case, Netflix knows not to mess with perfection…they re-hired the original music composer, Yoko Kanno, to make the tunes for this one as well. The mix heard in this trailer is my-tee-fine. The first season of Cowboy Bebop, which will be ten episodes long, premieres on Netflix November 19.
