The Bodyguard is one of the most iconic romance movies in the 90s. What makes it special is that it is an interracial romance film where the plot doesn’t center about race. No identity politics, just romance between two people.
Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston, Played the role of the Bodyguard Frank Farmer and Popstar Rachel Marron. The script was originally written back in the 90s and it was suppose to Steve McQueen and Diana Ross. The film is about Rachel Marron, A popular popstar who fired a bodyguard after a stalker sent her disturbing messages.
Whitney’s cover of I will always love you by Dolly Parton did wonders for her career. The Soundtrack of this movie sold over 45 million copies.
The movie almost had a sequel with Princess Diana playing the role of a Princess and the next client of Frank Farmer. It would have been a franchise where Frank Farmer will have a different leading lady per sequel. In the first film, Farmer’s client is a popstar. That’s why they cast Whitney Houston, a real life popstar for the role of Rachel. The canceled sequel is about Farmer protecting a Princess. They want a real princess for the role. So they asked Lady Diana to take the role even if she is not an actress. She accepted but sadly she passed away before filming started.
Last Year, Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth showed interest on remaking the Bodyguard but with the roles reserved. Popstar Lizzo have interest on the movie and she has been replying on all the tweets about casting her and Chris Evans.
