The Blade Runner Tabletop RPG Kickstarter Launches Next Month
Last year tabletop game makers Free League announced they had acquired the Blade Runner license and were doing something with it: a new game, set for a 2022 release. It’s 2022 now and we’re about to learn a lot more. The Kickstarter campaign for the Blade Runner RPG has been given a launch date: May 3.
In Blade Runner: The Roleplaying Game, each player will assume the role of a detective searching the rainy streets of cyberpunk LA, on the hunt for Replicants. Note that the Blade Runners can be either human or Replicant themselves. The game is set between the first and second movies, so around 2037 — shortly after the Wallace Corporation lets their new Nexus-9 models on the streets, much harder to tell the difference. All gameplay will stem from the Core Rulebook, written by Joe LeFavi, CEO of Genuine Entertainment.
Martin Grip is creating the art for this one; you may already know him from his work on Free League’s own Alien RPG and Symbaroum. It looks pretty spiffy:
According to Free League, “the RPG will both in setting and mechanics also showcase key themes of Blade Runner – sci-fi action, corporate intrigue, existential character drama, and moral conflict – that encourage roleplay and challenge players to question your orders, empathize with your enemies, and make hard calls with high stakes and long-lasting implications.”
We should learn more — such as the contents of the deluxe Kickstarter exclusive edition you know is coming — when the campaign launches on May 3.
