Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows Trailer Is Here!
Paramount Pictures surprised everyone today with the release of the first trailer for the upcoming sequel to the 2014 live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. You can check out the trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows trailer, featuring a ton of big reveals, below.
So this trailer is quite busy. Longtime fans will be happy to know that the film, which comes from producer Michael Bay, features the big-screen debut of mainstay TMNT villains Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (WWE Superstar Sheamus). In addition, Arrow star Stephen Amell portrays the franchise’ new iteration of the hockey mask-wearing vigilante, Casey Jones. In addition, the trailer has new footage of Brian Tee as the new actor for the villainous Shredder. It also seems that there is a plot regarding opening a warp hole to Dimension X so their forces can invade the Earth. Megan Fox is back as April O’Neil along with Will Arnett as Vernon Fenwick. In addition, even Baxter Stockman is in the movie, played by Tyler Perry. So in terms of fan service, the trailer looks like it is going far to deliver a lot to try and appease the TMNT faithful who were disappointed with the last movie.
The first film’s major problem, besides its weak story, was the threadbare characterizations of the actual Ninja Turtles. Their personalities and characters were barely defined. They had little in the way of character arcs, especially in comparison to the classic 1990 live-action movie. The CG motion capture designs of the Turtles and Splinter were also jarring. This might be and issue here based on Bebop and Rocksteady, but perhaps the look will serve the heightened world the movie takes place. There’s also the film’s focus on Fox showing up in a skimpy schoolgirl outfit. One can understand what the producers are going for there, but it just seems way too juvenile and immature, even for the TMNT franchise.
The upcoming film is directed by Dave Green (Earth to Echo) and written by Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, who wrote the 2014 film. Michael Bay produces the film alongside Galen Walker and Scott Mednick. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows hits theaters on June 3, 2016.
