Tech-heavy Black Ops II launch trailer readies us for future warfare
This morning we’re pleased to bring you the official launch trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops II, which is chock-a-block with things guaranteed to caress your intrigue nodules.
“Such as?” you ask? Well, it features jet-powered wingsuits, cannon-equipped AGRs (think of a squashed AT-AT with big guns on it), wrist-mounted grappling hook launchers, miniature reconnaissance bugs, automated assault droids, stealth cloaks, and loads more besides. See for yourself:
Also, it would appear Treyarch has made some significant visual improvements to Black Ops II’s engine since the shooter’s initial reveal. We admit there’s a possibility that the action on show came from an amped gaming rig, not a console, but even so the game’s looking mighty fine.
At least once a day, someone somewhere says something to the effect of “Call of Duty is [insert derogatory term/expletive of choice here]. It’s just the same game rehashed year after year” – and to an extent perhaps this observation is accurate. However, with its less linear campaign, entirely reworked multiplayer and continuation of the stellar Zombies game mode, we believe Black Ops II will force the haters to change their tune when it arrives on November 13th.

never mind the fact that it’s finally changed from present to future? find me a call of duty with cloaking in it before this and i’ll accept that it’s a rehash. no, this is more akin to halo than anything else.

That’s precisely my point; Treyarch has gone to such great lengths to reinvent the franchise, I don’t think anyone will be able to call Black Ops 2 a rehash – at least with any legitimacy, anyway.

Still not terribly interested. STALKER 2’s dead but we still have Metro Last Light to look forward to. Add to that the potentially impressive reboot of Tomb Raider, Prey 2 (which will launch eventually!), and Mass Effect 4… ahem, I mean Ghost Warrior 3 (because no one in their right mind would be interested in ME4 over GW3) and there are simply too many better games out there.

Frankly, I’m umm-ing and ahh-ing. I’ve got Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Borderlands 2 on the go at the moment, with Assassin’s Creed III and Need for Speed: Most Wanted on the way. This begs the question: do I really need Call of Duty: Black Ops II as well?

to tell the truth, i’ve never owned a modern warfare, call of duty, or medal of honor game. however, if it’s rts, turn-based strategy, rpg, or a simulation, chances are i’ve played it. only two first person shooters i can claim to have owned are halo 2 and duck hunter. i prefer 3p shooters and sci-fi (battlefront and mass effect (well, til mass effect projectile vomited all over itself, anyway))

If I’m honest, I’ve had many enjoyable sessions playing competitive FPSs, but unfortunately an equal number of infuriating ones. On a good night, when lag is minimal and I’ve got my real-life friends in a party, the fun to be had is immeasurable. However, when connection is poor and the abusive adolescents are out in full force – cussing and ‘griefing’ you for ‘lulz’ – it makes me want to toss the disc in a pre-heated oven.
In one way, you’re really missing out, but in another your avoidance of such titles is wise.
