Tatsumi Kimishima is the New President of Nintendo
It may be hard to believe, but it’s been roughly two months since the death Nintendo President Satoru Iwata. His death not only shocked the world (as we believed he was in good health), but it rocked Nintendo to its core. Iwata was the force behind many initiatives, including the upcoming console NX, which he was personally working on the team making it to ensure it lived up to the expectations Nintendo has.
But, with his passing, a new president had to be found, and after much discussion, and a vote at the Board of Directors meeting, Mr. Iwata’s replacement has been selected: Tatsumi Kimishima.
You may be wondering who this man is. The truth is that he’s been at Nintendo for quite some time, and he’s held numerous positions in the company. He’s worked at the Pokemon Company as CFO, was President of Pokemon USA and Nintendo of America (before being succeeded by Reggie Fils-Aime). Then he was CEO and Chairman of the board for NOA until he would relinquish that position to Mr. Iwata.
His roles before taking the CEO position were managing director, general manager of Corporate Analysis & Administration Division, and head of Human Resources Division.
Now obviously it’s impossible to judge how Mr. Tatsumi Kimishima’s appointment will affect Nintendo in the short term and long term. Both in regards to how things will change, or stay the same. I think it’s fair that we give him time to get into his new role, and let him make his own name, instead of us giving one to him.
After all, we didn’t much about Mr. Iwata when he became the President, now did we?
