While it’s true that video game movies don’t always work, there are always exceptions. One of the best exceptions of all time was Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph. A story about an arcade character, born a villain, who doesn’t want to be one anymore. Seeing the world of video games (both arcade and non) depicted like this was really cool, and the film earned lot of praise, and lots of money, because of it. It’s taken quite a bit of time (over six years by the time the film comes out), but now, we have our first look at Wreck-It Ralph 2. Subtitled “Ralph breaks the internet”, the movie focuses on Ralph and best friend Penelope Von Sweetz as they discover the vastness of the internet (which in and of itself advanced games in a big way). Wreck-It Ralph was a hit movie a few years back, and fans have wanted a sequel for quite some time. Last year, it was revealed he would be coming back, but now, we got some more information. The movie is officially called Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet. This coincides with the teaser art that was shown last year that showed Ralph and Vanellope Von Schweetz among spoofs of popular websites. The reveal was done at Cinema Con, and the original team and actors are returning for this sequel. “To take these characters we love and have them enter the enormous world of the internet has given us so much to explore,” said Co-Director Rich Moore in a press release. “Our production team has been hard at work designing a world that takes something we all think we know – the internet – but shows it in a whole new, imaginative way.” “We’re so excited to be working with Ralph, Vanellope von Schweetz, Fix-It Felix and Sergeant Calhoun again,”

Walt Disney Animation Studios has officially announced that the upcoming sequel to Wreck-It Ralph will hit theaters on March 9, 2018. The original team from the first film is reunited for the sequel, including Zootopia co-director Rich moore and producer Clark Spencer. Phil Johnston joins the production as director and writer. Of course, John C. Reilly returns as the voice of Ralph, and Sarah Silverman is back as the game-winning glitch, Vanellope von Schweetz. A new promotional image for the upcoming film was also released (pictured above). The filmmakers and Reilly made the announcement today on Facebook Live which you can watch in full at this link. The sequel is still currently untitled, but Disney confirmed that in this film, Ralph will be wrecking the internet in the follow-up. In a rare case of “How does this not have a sequel yet?!?!?”, there appears to be some movement on Wreck-It Ralph 2. With John C. Reilly confirmed to return to voice the titular Wreck-It Ralph. This confirmation came via producer Penny Hart, who tweeted out: “John C Reilly announced at the interview today that he has signed on for Wreck it Ralph 2!” Wreck-It Ralph was a hit when it released, and went on to make over $470 million at the worldwide box office. And yet, (not unlike Frozen), a sequel wasn’t announced right away. There has been talks of who might join in the sequel, but nothing definitive.
