There’s a special Walking Dead-themed event happening in PUBG, but you have to be playing the mobile version to take part. The main attraction is the ten iPhone 11 Pro Maxes the game is giving away throughout October, but you stand a better chance of winning the other prize — the use of Daryl Dixon’s motorcycle in PUBG Mobile.
It’s been an open secret for several months that AMC wants to expand the presence of The Walking Dead on their channel even further than what already exists, by launching a third series set in Robert Kirkman’s post-apocalyptic world. Today was the day they made an official announcement.
A giant shockwave hit the gaming newsfeed Friday afternoon with reports that Telltale Games was filing for bankruptcy and would cease operations immediately. Their entire payroll was let go that very day save for 25 people, who were being kept on to finish up an unspecified project.
OVERKILL’S The Walking Dead is aiming to be a very special entry into the Walking Dead franchise, a franchise that has a successful comic, TV series and spinoff, and video games. But this video game will be very different, as it’ll focus on cooperative gameplay starring four characters who are new to the universe in the eyes of the gamers. I.E., not ones associated with the comics, TV shows, or other games. However, despite having a lot of hype, the game has gotten a lot of delays.
The Walking Dead is in an interesting place as a TV show. Despite it still being one of the most popular shows on TV, it has been seeing declines in its ratings. What’s more, this season brought a lot of controversy with the death of fan-favorite character Carl Grimes (who’s still alive in the comic) and rumors of other characters leaving as well.
The Walking Dead universe is one that has been explored, but not fully revealed, even in the comics, there are new elements and people who still being introduced. And now, via the new upcoming video game Overkill’s The Walking Dead, we’re going to get an even deeper look at the world that Robert Kirkman created. And a new character trailer has been shown off for it.
The Walking Dead on AMC is known for many things. It’s one of the greatest comic adaptations of all time, it’s a ratings beast, and it’s a show that doesn’t mind diverging from the source material (the Image comic) when it wants to/needs to. However, the show has not been without a lot of controversy. And we’re not talking the “Why did they kill Glenn?” controversy. We mean ones that have left many scratching their head. One of which was in Season 02 when character Dale Horvath was killed.
For months, Walking Dead fans have dreaded the arrival of the midseason premiere for Season 08. Because this premiere would mark the end of the life of fan-favorite character Carl Grimes. The death was a major swerve to the narrative of the show, as the character is still alive in the comics. And reports flooded out once it was revealed about how actor Chandler Riggs was “dumped” from the show, or how he was “blindsided by the death”. Whatever the truth was then, he sees fine with it now.
One of the biggest things a story can do, regardless of its medium, is kill of a character who is important to the story. Now, yes, sometimes that character is a villain, and you can argue they’re supposed to die. But other times, it’s a protagonist, or a supporting character that bites the bullet, and doesn’t make it out, and those are the deaths that hurt the viewers the most. For The Walking Dead, death is a constant part of the equation, however, the question if “immunity” still pops up.
The Walking Dead is still a big hit on AMC, and as such, the network has not only renewed the show for a ninth season, they’ve decided to promote current showrunner Scott Gimple to a Chief Creative Officer position. One that will oversee the “Walking Dead Universe”, which could mean that we’re getting another spinoff show. As for his replacement, Angela Kang will take over for him. She’s been a writer and Executive Producer on the series, and Gimple said in a statement that not only was he honored with the promotion, he views Angela as the perfect replacement for him:
Something that must be started about certain fanbases is that when a show or film follows popular and well known source material, certain things are expected. Now, they do understand that not everything can be the same, as that would be very hard to do, but certain things are thought to be “sacred”. For the Walking Dead, the show has diverged from the comics in many ways. Certain people are alive when they’re dead in the comics, certain characters never showed up in the series. But the recent midseason finale though has many people angry.
It may be hard to believe, but TellTale Games first launched their Walking Dead saga back in 2012. Since then, video games have evolved quite a bit, and so, with the final season of the series coming next year, the team decided to do something special. They were going to combine every single episode from the main game and the spinoffs and upgrade them for players. Thus is born The Walking Dead Collection.
