On Monday, June 22nd, the world of film music suffered a devastating loss when James Horner, winner of two Oscars for his musical contributions to Titanic, died in a plane crash. Mr. Horner’s death sent shockwaves through the film community. He scored three movies awaiting release and was on-board to do the scores for the Avatar sequels. I’ve been a fan of Mr. Horner’s work for years now, and so I would like to take a look back at some of the scores he wrote that either had an impact on me or I just enjoyed for what they were…Wonderful music.

As May of 2015 drew to a close, an announcement was made that, in its’ own small way, changed the course of film history. Rick Baker, the winner of seven Oscars for his achievements in film make-up, announced that not only was he selling material from his past projects, but he was retiring. As a tremendous fan of retro pop culture, I thought back on the times that I saw Rick Baker’s work. Whether it was on film or at a theme park, I was impressed by Mr. Baker’s work even before I knew his name. Herewith, I would like to pay tribute to this versatile talent.

I first started doing interviews in 2006, when I started writing for RetroJunk. Over the course of almost 9 years, I’ve interviewed a wide variety of amazing performers and behind-the-scenes talents who made an impression on me and the pop culture I love so much. I also have the good fortune of being friends with many of these performers on Facebook. This is what makes this article so hard to write. I’ve paid tribute on here to Robin Williams and Joan Rivers, but I never had the chance to speak to either of them. Taylor Negron, on the other hand, was a man I was fortunate enough to speak to.

The death of Joan Rivers was both like and unlike Robin Williams’ death. Like Williams, she was a talent who was full of life and never seemed to stop working up until the end. Unlike Williams, who was also experiencing health issues, she didn’t die by her own hand. Despite that, though, the loss of Joan Rivers is also one that has had an impact on my pop cultural likes.
