Game Informer had a chat with Eiji Aonuma and Hiromasa Shikata, producer and director of the mutliplatyer Zelda title Tri Force Heroes for 3DS. Wonder how they whipped up this game so fast after they just released another Zelda the year before? Shikaka revealed to GI that Tri Force Heroes uses the same game engine created for Link Between Worlds a year earlier. Shikata: When we finished up A Link Between Worlds, we looked at the game engine and Mr. Aonuma had talked with the team about wanting to create a multiplayer Zelda game and really wanted to take a look at whether or not that system was something they could use to accomplish that goal. The Legend of Zelda: Tri-Force Heroes Sells Roughly 55,000 In Opening Week In Japan

Sales matter when it comes to games. But this especially becomes true when it comes to major franchises, regardless of whether they’re on the handhelds, mobile market, or high-end consoles. Take for example Legend of Zelda. It’s a franchise that has lasted decades without many failures, and it’s expected to sell across all regions. About a week ago, Legend of Zelda: Tri-Force Heroes was released, and we’re already getting some sales numbers for the game on the 3DS. According to Dengeki Online, The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes sold around 54,400 copies in its first week in Japan. The sales tracker didn’t provide a sell-through rate (aka how much of the initial shipment was sold), but Dengeki did note the sales on that front. Tri Force Heroes managed to sell through about 55 percent of its initial shipment. One important point to bring up, however, is that Dengeki has the game closer to having sold 60,000 copies. Director Hiromasa Shikata Talks Tri-Force Heroes

Legend of Zelda: Tri-Force Heroes, is easily one of the more bold directions the series has taken in its long run, mainly because it focuses more on co-op play than a single-player adventure. Talking with IGN, Director Hiromasa Shikata talked about how numerous decisions were made about the gameplay through tests with gamers, such as why three players instead of four: “When we tried four player, we definitely wanted to incorporate the totem mechanic,” Shikata told IGN, “but what happened is that when you totem, the middle two players have nothing to do.“ He also notes how the dynamics between players was better suited for three players instead of four: “When it was four players, the players split up into two and two and each of them would do their own thing,” Shikata explained. “So we thought that three players was the best number to have.” Shikata had other ideas he thought would work, such as players fusing together…but it didn’t pan out: “[The fused heroes] could only go in
