The second season of the anime hit Spy x Family premieres in just a few days, but Toho Animation has released the full main title sequence today. While the previous two have gone for pretty, well-rendered scenes of the Forger family romping around with lots of bloom and glow effects, this latest opener goes for art, and gets a bit more abstract. Prepare to have lots of feet shoved in your face, R. Crumb style.
A new Godzilla movie is on the way, but it’s not part of the American continuity Warner Bros has set up. This one’s from Toho, the original inventors of the monster…and it’s literally going back to the beginning.
If there’s one entity in this world you definitely want on your side, it’s Godzilla, King of the Monsters. IDW knows this, which is why they’ve made a deal with the tyrannical lizard to star in a new string of books, officially licensed by Toho.
I realize I posted something about the new “Godzilla” movie not that long ago. But I want to post something about it again. This is the big action movie I’m excited about for 2014, actually.
First up, the impressive poster that was revealed at Yahoo! Movies. Godzilla looks huge.
But that is nothing compared to the brand-new trailer that just got released. Observe:
There’s two ways to play Godzilla. You play Godzilla straight or you play Godzilla as cheesy for all its worth. And if you’re going to play Godzilla straight, you better make Godzilla the most terrifying force of nature you can ever imagine. This movie looks to be playing Godzilla straight . . . but it is also looking like the movie will accomplish making Godzilla scary. Absolutely scary. There’s a sense of hopelessness in the trailer, this feeling of facing an unstoppable, borderline-invincible force, that that is chilling to the bone. Every bit of a movie theater’s resources look to be getting used up by this one.
And hopefully this will erase the memory of the poor 1998 film once and for all.
Gareth Edwards directs the new adaptation, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, and Ken Watanabe starring. Release will be in May 2014.
