So, we are days away from the arrival of Thor: Ragnarok, a film that at one time fans weren’t excited for at all. The first two movies did well enough, and helped make Thor a more mainstream character, but it paled in comparison to other MCU films. And sure enough, early reviews and reactions are calling it one of the best films the MCU has ever released, which is very big praise indeed. One of the things that is truly holding the Marvel Cinematic Universe back from ultimate greatness is the fact that they don’t own the full rights to all of their characters. This is especially difficult for current MCU member The Hulk, who can be in all the MCU films…but can’t star in one of his own because his rights are partially owned by Universal. As such, he’s relegated to roles in the Avengers films, and now a co-starring role in Thor: Ragnarok. But, according to actor Mark Ruffalo, Ragnarok will start a big arc for the character. While talking with IGN he noted that things have changed for Bruce Banner/Hulk. Mainly because the “rules” don’t apply to him anymore. “The anger is no longer the only reason that he turns into the Hulk. We are only a few weeks away from the arrival of Thor: Ragnarok, the third installment of the Thor franchise and the last MCU movie of the year, and the last before Avengers: Infinity War. This movie is notable for many reasons. First, it’ll feature many big changes for the character of Thor. Second, it’s the first major role for Hulk since his solo movie (and the first for Mark Ruffalo who was only a certain piece in the Avengers films). Finally, it features the first female MCU villain in Hela. And in a new featurette, we get to see Cate Blanchett and others talk about Hela and she fits into the plot of Thor: Ragnarok. So when the first trailer for Thor Ragnarok came out, it was clear that the style of the movie was going to be much different than the original and its sequel The Dark World. Thor was going to be teaming up with Hulk, Asgard had fallen, Mjolnir was destroyed, and much more. But at the end of the trailer, a now iconic line was spoken. When Thor sees Hulk in the gladiator pit of Sakaar, he cries out, “YES!!! We know each other! He’s a friend from work!” Now, on the surface, this may seem like classic Marvel humor. But in fact, that’s not the case. As Chris Hemsworth reveals, it was a fan that thought of that line. “We had a young kid, a Make-A-Wish kid on set that day,” Hemsworth told Entertainment Weekly. “In between the takes, I was talking with him, kind of going back and forth, and he goes, ‘You know, you should say, “He’s a friend from work!”‘ So that young man came up with it.”

Despite it being the third film in the series, Thor: Rangarok is still adding key characters from the Thor mythology. In this film, we’re getting the villainess Hela, the warrior Valkyrie, and Thor’s ally/enemy in Skurge The Executioner. Who in this film will be played by Karl Urban. In the comics, Skurge was a loyal Asgardian who fell under the sway of The Enchantress, another Thor villain. And he serves her out of love despite everything she does. As we saw in the latest Thor trailer, Skurge also takes the side of an evil woman, in this case Hela. But why? IGN talked with Karl Urban and he revealed what caused the betrayal: “When we find Skurge, he’s operating the Bifrost because Heimdall is missing in action, and then pretty soon after that Hela shows up,” Urban told IGN. “Skurge sees the writing on the wall and has to make a decision whether to die or join her, so his instincts of self-preservation take over.” What’s interesting here though is that Urban

One of the phrases that has been said for the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that “it’s all connected.” Meaning, that even if you don’t realize it, everything single movie in the universe ties to the other, and as such, as a deep impact on the others. At last nights Marvel Studios panel, a new trailer for Thor: Ragnarok was revealed. In it, we got more action, looks at Hulk, Loki, Hela, and more. But, at the end was a tease of major Thor villain Surtur about to fight the Hulk. What’s interesting about this is that at the panel, they revealed that legendary voice actor Clancy Brown would do the voice of Surtur. Brown has been a part of both DC’s and Marvel’s animation universe. He’s been the voice of Lex Luthor, Red Hulk, and many more, as well as being in numerous live-action shows and films as well. What’s also interesting is that the motion capture for Surtur is being done by the director of the film, Taika Waititi: “I did a little of the mo-cap stuff for Surtur, body wise, but then we have Clancy Brown doing the voice of Surtur.” Thor: Ragnarok arrives November 3rd.

At the Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic Con, a brand new trailer for Thor Ragnarok was shown. This trailer was much more story based, as it showed Thor, Valkyrie, Hulk (and Bruce Banner) and even Loki teaming up to take down Hela and other forces. There’s a lot of things to note here, the classic look of Hela finally got a full viewing, Skurge is on her side, Hulk can talk, and it appears as though Surter from Norse mythology is also going to join the party. Oh, and we also get to see just how connected to his element the God Of Thunder is. Thor Ragnarok releases on November 3rd.

We may be over halfway through the year, but there’s still some great comic book movies coming out. The first being Thor: Ragnarok, which will see the God of Thunder against his most powerful foe yet, the dark queen known as Hela. And there is art all over San Diego Comic Con showing off the third film in the series. One was taken and posted on Twitter, showing off Loki and Thor as they square off against Hela. What’s interesting here though is that this is Thor in his “classic” look, not the short hair and swords look we’re going to get when he visits Sakaar. Also though, this shows Thor and Loki looking on at Hela’s rise to power, could this mean that Thor finds out about Loki before Hela arrives? We’ll find out when Thor: Ragnarok releases on November 3rd.

Picture how you’ve always dreamed a movie about a war between gods could be. Was it anything like the first two Thor films (or heaven forbid, “Gods of Egypt”)? Most likely not. For all their CGI trickery, Hollywood just can’t seem to get a high fantasy super battle right at all. Until possibly today — the big trailer for Thor: Ragnarok has been released, and boy is it great. Without using too many spoilers, let me just put it this way: one of the villains is powerful enough to make Thor’s hammer EXPLODE by just touching it. And that’s just for starters! Whereas Asgard came off as stiff and boringly orderly in the first two films, in this movie it’s almost like a world depicted on one of those great old record covers. It seems another quality thespian and alum of the Jurassic Park series is joining the cast for Thor: Ragnarok. It seems actor Sam Neill confirmed to the Shortlist that he is in fact in the movie in a mystery role. What that role could be is a complete mystery at this point. Sam Neill is the second alum of the Jurassic Park franchise to join the upcoming sequel. Marvel Entertainment already announced previously that Jeff Goldblum was cast in the picture as The Grandmaster. Speaking on the film, Neill stated, “I’m not really allowed to say this and I can’t tell you what it is…I did a couple of days on Thor just before I came over here.
