CD PROJEKT RED, creators of The Witcher series of games, announce that Damian “TailBot” Kaźmierczak has won the April 2018 GWENT Challenger tournament. The event took place this past weekend in “Wieliczka” Salt Mine, Poland, where eight of the best GWENT players from around the world competed for their share of the $100,000 prize pool, Crown Points, as well as the Challenger winner’s gold signet ring. The tournament also revealed Kaźmierczak as the third champion, after Adrian “Lifecoach” Koy and Frederick “Freddybabes” Bird, to join the cast of GWENT World Masters — the grand finale tournament of GWENT’s official esport series, set to take place in 2019. Fighting for their share of the $100,000 prize pool were 8 of the best players of GWENT Masters — the official esports series of GWENT: The Witcher Card Game. The tournament’s winner also claimed the December 2017 GWENT Challenger winner’s ring and right to compete in the grand finale of GWENT Masters — the 2019 GWENT World Masters. The venue for the tournament was the beautiful Moszna castle in Poland. For the duration of the tournament, the castle transformed into a royal Nilfgaardian stronghold, populated by many fan-favorite characters from the world of The Witcher, including Emperor Emhyr var Emreis himself. Quarterfinal matches took place on Saturday, December 16th. Two of them ended in complete 3:0 shutouts, with GWENT’s top Pro Ladder players Andrzej “Adzikov” Bal and Raffael “GameKingAT” Iciren eliminated from the tournament. So it’s not surprising that CD Projekt Red would want to expand that with new and exciting features. Including…a Story Campaign. Gwent: The Witcher Card Game has now entered its Public Beta phase. To commemorate the occasion, CD Projekt RED has released two new trailers for the game. You can check out a new cinematic trailer and a new official gameplay trailer below. As of now, the Public Beta is open for the game on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. The Witcher series has been one of big adventure, big choices, and big worlds to explore. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt seeks to take that to the nth degree, even though it’ll be the end of Geralt of Rivia’s (the main character) story. As Senior Writer for the game Senior Writer Jakub Szamałek told IGN in an interview, “we felt that we owed Geralt a proper goodbye, and decided to part ways with a boom.” As other franchises have proved, it’s easy to keep a main character going in order to continue the series. However, The Witcher crew didn’t want to do that with Geralt. Szamalek added: “I think good stories must have an ending. You cannot extend them indefinitely, and we felt that Geralt has had such an amazing adventure, and his saga is already so long and complex that this seemed like a good point to think about an appropriate finale for the story.” Don’t think though that this is the definitive end for The Witcher game series.
