The Bastards’ Fig Tree Coming This May
Dark Star Pictures will be screening the foreign dark comedy The Bastards’ Fig Tree across the country, starting this week. The film stars Karra Elejalde. As the Spanish Civil War is winding down, there’s a trigger-happy soldier running around who’s a bit TOO into his job. After he stomps into a home and plugs a boy’s father, he turns around and locks eyes with the kid — and the look he gets haunts him for years. Convinced the boy is eventually going to kill him in an act of revenge, he becomes a hermit obsessed with the care of a fig tree. The Bastards’ Fig Tree premiered at Fantastic Fest last fall, and will begin its US theatrical tour on May 10 with a screening in Los Angeles. Other cities will get the film in the weeks ahead, but if your city isn’t among them, you can find a digital release starting June 4.
