SyFy Is Making A Horror Movie Starring The Banana Splits
If the kerbillion sequels to that one movie about a tornado full of sharks didn’t make it clear, SyFy Channel is devoted to making cheesy B-movies, the more outrageous the better. And while they’ve been coasting on the success of Sharknado with random “shark–insert thing here” knockoffs, this time they’ve come up with a truly novel idea: a horror slasher starring Sid & Marty Krofft characters. Sid and Marty Krofft dominated Saturday Morning TV in the 70s, and the majority of their output was trippy psychedelic TV programs starring unsettling puppets. The shows are truly bizarre to watch today, and even a bit creepy….hence the inspiration. SyFy’s “The Banana Splits Movie” is about the Banana Splits…as murderers. We wouldn’t call this product completely original — the way it’s shot and staged bares more than a passing resemblance to a certain video game about animatronic animals that come alive at night.
