Those who saw Infinity War know Natasha Romanoff, aka the superheroine Black Widow, perished in the events of Avengers: Endgame. And those who didn’t see Avengers: Endgame still know this fact because they’ve been on the Internet at some point between May 2019 and now. So how can Natasha be up and running about, let alone be starring in her own feature (coming next May)? Because, if you haven’t already guessed, this one’s a prequel. It’s not immediately obvious because a Blockbuster Video doesn’t appear, but this is the past. The original Spider-Man trilogy was meant to go on longer. A “Spider-Man 4” was in development at one point, but after director Sam Raimi and star Tobey Maguire both backed out, Sony was forced to reboot. First teased nearly a year ago at the end of the previous crossover (Elseworlds), Crisis On Infinite Earths promises to be the largest DC superhero teamup ever witnessed on TV. Its inspiration, the 1985 comic book miniseries of the same name, was written to consolidate decades of unwieldy and confusing continuity that DC had built up. Here, the main purpose is ratings (and, also, to get Supergirl in the same dimension as The Flash. And also probably to kill Ollie). Today WarnerMedia revealed just about everything we’d been wanting to know about HBO Max; so much that it can’t be contained in one article. We’ll be posting multiple news stories in succession, starting with this one. The first news is the news that’s been most crucial: the price of this thing. Rumors had it at $17.99 a month, which sounded pretty ridiculous even with all the crazy new shows and exclusives they’ve been shoring up. Fortunately, that is not the case: the price is actually $14.99, which still puts it at the more expensive side (especially when compared to Disney+) but somewhat more manageable. When the big E3 trailer for Marvels Avengers started playing at E3, we heard a voiceover from a nameless woman explaining the opening plot. There was a lot of speculation over which woman we were hearing. To all those who guessed Ms. Marvel (and there were a fair amount who guessed Ms. Marvel), congratulations — you were right. HBO is banking heavily on a new Watchmen series to attract subscribers this fall, and today we learned its release date (October 20). This series will not be an adaption of Alan Moore’s 1986 graphic novel, but a continuation of its story. it’s a big risk, considering how much they have to come up with on their own. The show takes place in an alternate present day, just as the original Watchmen comic took place in an alternate present (of 1985) when it was published. Richard Nixon is no longer alive, and a lot of the heroes we saw in the original book would either be dead or too old to take part in anything. The trailer DOES confirm Ozymandias, but he’s the bad guy. So the new Watchmen has no choice but to come up with some new characters.
