Masahiro Sakurai was the brainchild behind Super Smash Bros. when it first appeared on the Nintendo 64. Since then it’s grown into one of Nintendo’s biggest hits with a VERY VERY devoted fanbase (we mean very), and each entry has been personally approved by Sakurai, every step of the way.
It looks like game developer Masahiro Sakurai, creator of Super Smash Bros. and Kirby’s Dreamland, is working on a new game project. What new project that could be is a complete mystery. In a new interview with the Japanese website Nintendo Dream, Smash Bros. producer Masahiro Sakurai was asked which character he wanted to include in the latest Super Smash Bros (which just wrapped its DLC production this month) but couldn’t. Sakurai immediately mentioned Geno. In fact, he wanted Geno in the game all the way back in Brawl.
Nintendo has officially announced via the official Twitter account for Nintendo America that the new DLC fighters for the Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS rosters will be hitting later this week. Starting in the afternoon of February 3, Nintendo will release Bayonetta of the Bayonetta franchise and Corrin from Fire Emblem Fate as DLC characters for the game.
Last month Nintendo revealed the final member of Team Smash, as chosen by a worldwide poll: Bayonetta. And it had an interesting effect on the once-pokey sales of her critically praised sequel from 2014. Suddenly, thousands of gamers realized “Oh right, I need to get around to playing that,” and headed out to the store.

Nintendo officially announced in today’s edition of Nintendo Direct that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS will be getting a special new playable character with the classic Final Fantasy hero Cloud Strife! You will get the chance to hear Hebert in the upcoming limited theatrical release for the new Dragon Ball Z anime feature film, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’, which is set to hit theaters soon. In addition, Hebert returned as Ryu from the Street Fighter franchise as a crossover character for the smash hit series, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Wii U. Hebert has also played such characters as Kiba in Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden, Kamina in Gurren Lagann, adult Gohan and numerous other characters in the Dragon Ball franchise, and Scientist Supreme Lyle Getz and the Super Skrull in Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Between numerous free updates for Splatoon, and the continued support of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, Nintendo is doing very well in terms of free gaming downloadable content as of late. And for the latter, a new update is coming soon for Super Smash Bros., which will feature much new content.
On July 31st the next firmware update will be applied to both the 3DS and the Wii U versions of Smash Bros. In addition to the usual tweaks and bug repairs, this update is anticipated to add all the features Nintendo has hyped in past Nintendo Directs and at E3.
