Review – Sunset Overdrive As one of Microsoft’s biggest Xbox One exclusives for the holiday period, Sunset Overdrive rightly arrives under heavy expectations. Sunset Overdrive is bright, brazen, loud and proud – but have developer Insomniac Games delivered what could well be the best Xbox One exclusive to date? Sunset Overdrive isn’t your typical post-apocalyptic game; there are no dull shades of grey or destroyed architecture here. The game kicks off the story right from the get go – a brand new energy drink has infected the population of Sunset City, turning them into zombie/monster hybrids known as the OD. You play as a character simply known as Player as you attempt to battle the OD, and other foes, in order to survive and hopefully escape Sunset City. Sunset Overdrive is acutely aware that it’s a video game and plays to its strengths tremendously without trying to deliver meaningful, emotional narrative and instead focusing solely on over the top fun. Traversing Sunset City sees the player grinding, wall running and bouncing
Microsoft has announced that they will be dropping the price of the Xbox One to $349 in North America. The deal begins on November 2 and ends January 3, 2015. The $50 price cut also applies to the three bundles Microsoft is currently offering. Those bundles include the Assassin’s Creed bundle with or without the Kinect ($449/$349), the Sunset Overdrive bundle ($349), and the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare bundle ($449). “Fans don’t have to wait for Black Friday this year to enjoy great savings on Xbox One,” said Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president, Microsoft. “We’re offering our best price yet, with unprecedented choices and value, so more people can play on Xbox One this holiday.” If you were planning on picking up an Xbox One, now would certainly be a great time to do so. Let us know in the comments what you think of these price cuts.
Gamescom – Day One Wrap Up Gamescom kicked off in a large way with an absolute wealth of information to take in on day one, including exclusives galore from both the Microsoft and Sony conference. Here’s the highlights, news and trailers in condensed forms for anyone who couldn’t keep up to date with the information overload! Microsoft Conference Possibly the biggest story to come out of the Microsoft conference was the announcement that Rise Of The Tomb Raider would be an Xbox platform exclusive, to release during holiday period 2015 – we covered the story in full here. Team based monster vs human first person shooter Evolve was recently pushed back into February 2015 – Microsoft announced during their conference that an open beta would be exclusive to the Xbox One in January. The following trailer was also shown, showcasing a new map called ‘The Distillery’. Fable Legends will also be receiving a pre-release beta for the multiplayer component of the game, which will launch on 16th October. The multiplayer part of the title allows
E3 is over for another year and it’s given gamers plenty to look forward to for the rest of the year and beyond. As is obligatory following any E3 coverage, here are my Top 5 Games from E3 – this is my personal selection of games that have me the most excited moving forward. Sunset Overdrive I have a love/hate relationship with my XBox One. On one hand I love Titanfall – it refreshed competitive multiplayer gaming for me at a time it was desperately stagnant. On the other hand, there’s a desperate lack of games for the XBox One. The PS4 has a steady flow of indie titles alongside multi platform games that perform better on the PS4 than the XBox One. Sunset Overdrive gives me a great deal of hope though – it looks fast, action-packed, beautifully bright, full of personality and gives me a genuine reason to boot up my XBox One again. The trailer for the game is also very clever and witty. Sunset Overdrive looks great
Insomniac Games have released a first look trailer for Sunset Overdrive. The video gives an initial glimpse at actual gameplay rather than simply pre-rendered footage. Revealed are a number of weapons, abilities and locations that players will get to encounter or use throughout their experiences. Despite still having very little information about Sunset Overdrive it has been one of the most eagerly awaited games of the new generation. From what we have seen it looks as if the game will have plenty of outlandish ways to kill bad guys, with unique weapons allowing for plenty of fun. Sunset Overdrive is an open world third-person shooter set in a dystopian future controlled by a soda company. After holding a huge party to celebrate the launch of their newest energy drink, it turns out that it has been causing the public to turn into mutants. You take the role of a FizzCo employee tasked with sorting out the problem. It also seems that travel around the environment will take place mainly on foot,
