The latest expansion for Destiny, Rise of Iron, has outperformed the original vanilla release of the game. According to sales data released by Activision, Destiny: Rise of Iron generation $59.1 million in digital revenue in September. That’s some almost $13 million more revenue that the base game made when it originally launched in September 2014. Considering that the near $60 million in revenue excludes the physical release of Destiny: The Collection, the data suggests that the install base for the game is significantly larger than it was when the title first released, an oddity as most games are busiest in the first few weeks after launch. Of course, the swell in digital earnings could also be put down to new microtransactions that were introduced earlier this year. While some players have complained about the extra paid content, many have continued to buy the extra cosmetic items that are on offer.
