Awhile back, Sega announced they were working on the next entry in the Phantasy Star Online 2 series, New Genesis. Since then players have been wondering when they might get the chance to test it out. How about this month? A global closed beta test for the PC version of Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis will be held from May 14 through May 16, Sega revealed today. The new world is set a thousand years before the events of regular PS02 and will introduce two new quests within the beta: Final Battle: Space-time Interstice (a new Ultimate Quest where you must challenge the Primordial Darkness, and do it alone — level 90 or above) and an unnamed quest for levels 85 and up. This second quest involves rescuing the citizens of the ARKS Ship from a devastating fire, and must be completed within an hour. For quite a while, Sega’s MMO Phantasy Star Online 2 has been available on PCs through Steam and the Windows 10 Store. The only place you can’t buy it for PC is the Epic Game Store, but that will only be true for a few more hours. Sega is bringing the game to a new marketplace. Sega is about to unleash a massive update for Phantasy Star Online 2 next Wednesday, February 3. The story will be updated, for one thing. Sega describes the impending plot developments this way: “The battle lines have been drawn, and the Armada of Annihilation continues to gather its forces around the Mothership. The time to strike is now, before any more Luminmech can be created. Sacrifices may be required as it’s going to take an all-out, coordinated attack by ARKS to annihilate Shiva – and the fate of the universe depends on the outcome.” So what does that mean? Sega announced today that they’ve added some new content to their long-running MMORPG Plantasy Star Online 2. Starting this week, anyone who logs into PSO2 will receive a Gold Bonus Key each day through January 20. Those who log in enough times within that period will get a Rainbow Bonus Key, an IDOLA poster and other items. What’s the Rainbow Key for? It grants access to a quest with massive rewards (experience points and Meseta, mostly), but only for a limited time, so be sure to use it if you get it. It’s impossible to get a Rainbow Key outside of special events or campaigns like this. Next week PSO2 will host other events including the Zero Meseta Cost Enhancement Campaign, the Quest Trigger Distribution Campaign (subtitled “Where the Chocolate Went”), and the Death, Destroyer of Worlds Completion Campaign.
