Could That X-Men Horror Movie Be Released After All?

The biggest question mark hovering over the 20th Century Fox schedule has been New Mutants, which promises to take the now-inescapable superhero movie genre to a place it’s never been before…outright horror. We’ve known about this movie for a long time….which is the problem. Its first trailer appeared almost two years ago. Maisie Williams, who plays Wolfsbane in the film, was asked about the status of New Mutants in a Rolling Stone interview published last month. She admitted she knew about as much as the reporter did. The film seems trapped in corporate limbo, thanks to Disney’s pending purchase of Fox. She doesn’t mince words on the situation. “Who knows when the **** that’s gonna come out,” she says. There were supposed to be reshoots to “make it scarier,” she explains, but they haven’t actually taken place. She says she saw one of her co-stars, Charlie Heaton, the other day and asked him, “What the **** is going on with this movie?” He didn’t know either. She smiles. “Hopefully this

New Mutants Director Talks Trailer And Possible Sequels

Today, the first trailer for the upcoming spinoff of the X-Men franchise, New Mutants, emerged. It takes some of the lesser known (but still incredibly powerful) mutants of the universe and basically puts them in a horror movie! Fun! Naturally, a lot of people are curious about what this all will be, and there’s plans for this to be the start of a trilogy. Which makes you wonder what’s coming up, as well as how it’ll connect with the X-Men universe proper. Director Josh Boone talked with IGN and noted: “I can’t … there’s some things I can’t talk about. New Mutants Won’t Be Like Other X-Men Films

The X-Men franchise is actually something very broad and diverse. While it may seem like just a bunch of movies about kids and adults with superpowers in a world that hates them, it’s a little more complex than that. And say what you will about recent successes and failures, but Fox is finally starting to show that larger world. The X-Men films have been going on for a while now, but with the arrival of Deadpool came a true branching out, and that’s lead to the confirmation of an X-Force film, and the arrival of the upcoming New Mutants film. But unlike the pure X-Men, New Mutants are about kids who are locked up because they don’t have control of their powers. New Mutants Was Pitched As Trilogy

The X-Men films are set to continue branching out in the upcoming years. Between Deadpool, Gambit, and the confirmed New Mutants film, we’re set to see a more diverse look at the X-Men Universe. The New Mutants film was actually as something other than a one-off film, it was pitched as a trilogy. This was revealed by Josh Boone to Creative Screenwriting, who was the one who brought the idea of New Mutants to Fox in the first place. He and his team did a unique approach to the pitch itself, they basically made a comic book of how the three films would work within the larger narrative. Boone cited that his inspiration for the pitch came from the classic New Mutants story, “The Demon Bear Saga” “After I made ‘The Fault in Our Stars,’ we made Fox a comic book,” he continued. “It walked them through a trilogy of ‘New Mutant’ films that would build on each other. Simon Kinberg Talks Possible New Mutants Movie

With Deadpool a mega-hit, and X-Men: Apocalypse aiming to be a big hit itself, the Fox brand of Marvel seems to be doing rather well on the mutant side. So much so that several other projects are rumored to be in productions. Including a movie based on the popular New Mutants. IGN chatted with producer Simon Kinberg about the project and where it stands: “Josh Boone and his writing partner are working on the script. They’re doing a really nice job of it, and it’s a really cool one, because in many ways, like Deadpool was so different from the mainline X-Men movies, New Mutants… It’s maybe not as different as Deadpool, but it has its own unique, original voice to it.” He also notes how much fun it is for him to be a part of a film like this: “That’s the fun for me, working in the X-Men universe, creating these sort of standalone movies that have a different vibe to them.
