This past weekend two major esports tournaments were held, EVO is one of the biggest esports events in the world and focuses entirely on fighting games while the Raid Call ESL Summer Finals in one of the many big summer DOTA 2 tournaments.
NetherRealm Studios Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition is due to be released for PC Worldwide via digital download, however the physical copy will be coming at a later date on August 2nd in Europe and August 6th in North America. Featured in the Komplete Edition will be the four DLC characters, Skarlet, Rain, Kenshi, and Freddy Krueger, 15 Klassic skins and three Klassic fatalities (Scorpio, Sub-Zero, and Reptile). Also included will be support for the Mortal Kombat Tournament Edition Fight Stick and standard controllers, achievements and leaderboard stats. The game is being ported by High Voltage Software, who had previously worked on the Zone of the Enders HD Collection. The original Mortal Kombat reboot was released in April 2011.
A few months ago, I got to know an astute trio of Englishmen from London, ‘KB’, ‘Stapesy’ and ‘Fabs’. Like myself, they’re avid gamers, and together they run Armed with Controllers, a YouTube channel through which they distribute videos of themselves doing what they love: playing videogames. In wake of the Connecticut school shooting, the NRA is coming out and blaming video games as the cause of the shooting, or at least, partially to blame. It seems like every time something like this happens, the media is always able to find some sort of a connection that ties the shooter to ‘violent’ video games. In the case of Adam Lanza, the game in question is Call of Duty. Let’s face it, video games are a relatively new media which can engage a wide variety of audiences through its gameplay. However, the effects of video games are still relatively unknown. There are studies which try to understand the effects of video games on its target audience but the results have so far been unsuccessful. There are millions of people all over the world who play video games and if there really is a connection between such killings and video games, the world would be less populated. Last year, Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios released a new Mortal Kombat title. Despite some lackluster releases in recent memory, Mortal Kombat managed to deliver everything that fans had been lusting for, delivering those classic nostalgic feelings that we all fell in love with in the original Mortal Kombat titles. Now, the very same game that’s available on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 is being released onto the handheld giant, the PS Vita. So how does it fair compared to its bigger brother?

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios today confirmed that Mortal Kombat for the PlayStation Vita system will be released on 4th May in the UK.
