This news item has been a long time coming, in terms of fan wishes, and nobody thought it would be revealed out of nowhere on a Tuesday afternoon, but that’s Nintendo for you. The company has announced they’ve begun plans for a big-budget theatrical motion picture based around The Legend Of Zelda.
Legend of Zelda
In exactly one month we’ll finally be able to lose ourselves in Hyrule once more. The Legend of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom releases May 12, and today Nintendo released what they say will be the final look at the game before it comes out.
Scarlet Moon, the music company that specializes in rearranged albums of familiar video game tunes, has a new one out timed for Halloween. Shadows of Hyrule is a celebration of the spookier side of the Legend of Zelda series.
For several years now it’s been a traded factoid that Texas-based Retro Studios, most famous for the Metroid Prime trilogy and a pair of Donkey Kong Country sequels, once made an attempt at a different franchise. There’s been scattered evidence that at one point, they were developing a spinoff game for the Zelda series starring Sheik from Ocarina of Time. All that remained of that project was a series of lavish, gothic illustrations carelessly left on somebody’s Artstation profile (before getting hastily yanked).

Video game hacker Kaze Emanuar has been a thorn in Nintendo’s side for several years now. He’s an expert at cracking apart the code to Super Mario 64, and has created mods for the game that introduce new characters, alternate power-ups, and sometimes entirely new unofficial sequels. Kaze has made more than one Mario 64 styled game entirely on his own…some are quite good, and even function on original N64 hardware.
If you were going to adapt The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild into an animated film, which style would you choose? With the game’s vast open expanses, the clean yet detailed stylings of Studio Ghibli would be a solid choice. A team of fans in Korea have done just that, and created a trailer for a nonexistent Zelda Ghibli movie.
Link’s Awakening is one of the best Zelda games in the entire series. It’s stiff competition, I know, but no other game has such a rich plot, in a world that feels so alive, with intriguing secrets throughout, and all with primitive Game Boy technology. But it’s primitive no more: Koholint Island is reborn this fall on Nintendo Switch.
Children of Termina, the latest Zelda-related orchestral arrangement from the composer known as Rozen, is his biggest hit to date. At the time of its release we were promised a limited-edition CD would exist, and this was the week they came in. Childen of Termina is officially available on CD!
Arranger and producer Joel Kent created Octorock in 2017, rearranging classic Zelda songs in guitar-shredding metal form. The CD was published through Materia Collective, and now Kent is back with Helmarock, a second collection containing more head-bangers from Hyrule.
It gives me great pleasure to say that today I have an excuse to get paid for writing about Link’s Awakening. My personal favorite game in the Legend of Zelda series is getting a 3D remake on Nintendo Switch.
Materia Collective has published a lot of fan-crafted video game track covers, and they’ve now introduced FATE: A Tribute To Majora’s Mask on various digital music platforms.
